What an experience I had playing golf at Pacific Dunes in Bandon, Oregon along the Pacific Ocean. As I walked along the fairways that followed the shore line the fog rolled in. Stepping up to the tee box I could not see the fairway. The caddy that was helping me had me placed my ball at the tee box, then he stood behind ball to feel his line of flight. He then placed a golf tee about five yards in front of my teed up golf ball and told me to aim toward this tee. Wouldn’t you know it! Into the darkness of the fog bank I made my blind swing and proceeded to hit my best drive of the day. My infamous slice didn’t even show up. My golf ball flew down the fairway landing smack in the middle of the short grass. Definitely one of those golf shots that keep me coming back for more.

Pacific Dunes, one of four golf courses at Bandon Dunes, designed by Tom Doak is very different in character and golf shot making from their other courses. It is short enough to give you a chance, but rugged enough to put you to the test. Then add the morning fog on top of that, and you’ve got yourself obstacles to conquer.

I was amazed how well I did for a very foggy morning. Of course without the instruction of my caddy I would have had a very different outcome. Before I left I was sure to get my logo ball so I could remember this day forever. It makes me smile when I see this golf ball sitting on myalong with my entire golf ball collection of the western United States golf courses. My display racks and cases always make great conversation starters. Why play the game if you can’t brag, laugh, cry and carry on about your experiences? Golf – an experience to be shared.
